I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first project challenge!
Rainbow Resurrection: 2012-04-07 16:00:00 GMT - 2012-04-10 16:00:00 GMT
This 72 hour challenge will feature Primegrid style user and team statistics and only work handed out after the start time and returned before the completion time will be counted. In addition all WUs that are part of the challenge will receive 1.25x the credit that is received ordinarily.
The reason for this challenge is two fold:
1) The new hardware has been performing excellently and is averaging less than 20% utilization
2) An ATI/OpenCL app version is in early alpha stages and this challenge will be helpful in seeing if we can handle full 24/7 CPU+GPU where ATI will be added in the future. |

Very nice, I´ll be in ;).
Will be some special statistics for this tournament? |

Yes, we already have code ready to go for a user and team listing that is similar to the way PrimeGrid does the same. I am waiting for confirmation from boincstats.com on if any particulars of those pages are used for challenge stats there and will then list the urls. |

Thank you for response. PG challenges stats are good :)
If you have the same stats like PG, have you in plan some other challenges? Like PrimeGrid? |

Lets see how this one goes first ;)
The current running 48 hour PG challenge is CPU only and it took hours to get work for all my machines. |

Yes, it´s true :-D
You will try your capacity and if everything will be OK, may be will come another challenge O:-). I like challenges (I hope that my team also :-D ).

Nothing special is required to join the challenge other than ensuring the WUs you crunch are received after the start and completed/reported before the end. |

Any guarantee's We will be getting the right CPU WU's for the 32bit and 64bit machines ?? Pointless crunching X86 Wu's on X86_64 as they take longer>>>(anyway on my quad they do...)

Bringing up app plan classes would have been better a week ago...We are not doing any new app builds < 2.5 hours before the start.
What you see on the apps page is what you get. |

Is there a counter somewhere, to see when the challenge starts? Quite use to it in PG challenges. |

That is not the answer to my question.
I also know that you are gearing up for the challenge(after all you don't want your first one to be a Cluster **CK like the recent one on PG)to which i quit after 18hrs...
I already have the right APPS for my machines! What i want to know is why I'm getting X_86 32bit WU's on My X_86_64bit.. AT this present momment i am crunching 2x X86_ 32bit and 2x X_86_x64bit wu's so why are 32bit wu's being sent to my windows 7 64 bit machine with the Right APP that you have pointed me to(and I already have It) that boinc downloaded to my computer when I attached to your project last month..
Do you crunch 32bit WU's on your 64bit machine with x86_64bit APP installed or are your machine/s getting the 64bit WU's for the 64 app? my other machine is 32bit it gets 32bit WU's with the 32bit APP installed it does not get 64bit logical innit.

There isn't a different queue for the WUs to be 64-bit vs 32-bit. We have a CPU work queue and a GPU work queue. I pointed out the apps page because on Windows right now there is only 32-bit builds for cuda/opencl_ati and 32/64-bit for the CPU. On the linux side 32/64-bit builds for the CPU and only 64-bit builds for cuda (I don't have a 32-bit linux box to test on and never got a 32-bit build to work for anyone).
My suspicion was that you get 32-bit work for cuda/opencl_ati and 64-bit for cpu. If in fact you are getting a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit cpu work units then that is odd and I would suggest removing the 32-bit binary, restarting BOINC, and seeing what happens. *note* I haven't looked at your machines to know exactly what mix you are getting on the different cpu/cuda/opencl_ati. |

As you can see what I was crunching.. Also you can also see the cuda crunching..
At the momment my machine has given me 4 X_86 32bit WU's for the challenge and another cuda (not that I mind that.. )the cuda's only take 2.45hrs )but the WU's are estimating 5hrs they have been running for 1hr and show 21.897%

What's the deal with the time on challenge stat pages being BST (British Summer Time) and not UTC/GMT. My clock on my computer is synced to UTC/GMT and that is when I started, according to the real UTC/GMT time. So I'm an hour late starting according to those pages but the server stat page time is correct. When did it really start? I didn't know about the countdown clock on front page until just now (and there's no countdown until it ends clock there now either to go by). If it started at BST then I got screwed and lost an hour. At 17:35 BST there was a lot of credit already for some, like it had been going for an hour and a half, not just half an hour, but I could be wrong and they simply have numerous high speed GPUs going (I know STE\/E has a lot). Just want to make sure when you say UTC/GMT you mean UTC/GMT. That doesn't change with local summer/daylight savings time in Britain.

It's just a display thing. The actual start/stop times are stored as seconds from the epoch. The challenge is correctly UTC and I updated the challenge stats page to use the proper timezone on the display.
Martin was going to change out the js on the front page once it started to keep a running clock for the challenge but seems like that is TBD. |

Locate your BOINC data directory and then under projects, boinc.freerainbowtables.com_distrrtgen, you should fine the binary. The location varies with install options and windows version so search for something such as global_prefs.xml and it should lead you to the directory. |

Just a quick update>>
found two lot's of the 32bit exe's in my program data file? deleted them both all seems to be working... as to why 2 plus the 64 and the cuda (all relating to Dist) has me baffled for now anyway... will have to do some poking about after the challenge...
Thanks for your help :)
goodluck in the challenge

Is there something special that one must do to get an HD 6970 to work here? I updated to Boinc 7.0.25 and have reinstalled Catalyst 12.1 many times now (even using driver sweeper) and I still can't get any wu's.
Here are my log entries:
1343 DistrRTgen 4/7/2012 5:09:34 PM update requested by user
1344 DistrRTgen 4/7/2012 5:09:34 PM Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.

1347 DistrRTgen 4/7/2012 5:09:36 PM No tasks sent
1348 DistrRTgen 4/7/2012 5:09:36 PM No tasks are available for Distributed Rainbow Table Generator (distrrtgen)
I did notice that Boinc detects my card as a CAL device with no mention of OpenCL.
4/7/2012 9:09:02 AM ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Cayman) (CAL version 1.4.1664, 2048MB, 2016MB available, 6912 GFLOPS peak)
Any idea of a good driver/boinc version combo that works? |

have you downloaded the ATI(AMD) SDK ?

Thanks for the reply Mankka!
No I have not. I thought it was included in the 12.1 install. When you do the 'custom' install, an SDK option is already checked.
Is this an extra install or does it replace the normal 12.1 catalyst install? |
|
|
|
|
|
...to be honest I don't remember if it was included in the newer downloads, most of my boxes are using CCC 11.3 (about 25% faster than the new ones in crunching)
I had to download it separately from the ATI (amd) site, so keep on searching ;) |

Since it works for you I'll give it a try. Thanks! |

Can add 6450 and 5450 as well for working, not well but working. for XP machines have to use catalyst 12.1 found out in a different post refrenced here that starting with 12.2 they removed CAL support for xp and boinc wont even see the card as useable. is there a post where we can post bugs and such found with it? |

There are some private threads on our main forum when we started working with PNT on testing the early alpha release they were/continue to work on. After the challenge since it went from private alpha to semi-public with the app version addition (and then rather public as people posted about it;)) then we will find the best thing to do on create a thread/sub-forum and/or opening up the private ones.
Bug reports are always most appreciated via our bug tracker. Yes, forums here, phpBB3 forums, and Mantis all have separate login systems. On the todo list is to at least find a way for existing phpBB3 logins to continue but allow authentication with credentials from the BOINC side so we can at least cut down from 3 accounts to 2. Almost no one makes use of the bug tracker and that may have some to do with yet another account and that will be my next target on centralizing the authentication. (Each of the 3 accounts makes use of a different password hashing/salting/key stretching method so none of them directly can handle the other auth systems). |

They are exported every 5mins just as the page stats. As BS is picking them up at :32, :47, :03, :17 then this should be fine. I set it to 5 as I didn't know the BS time frame for the challenge stats but can obviously back it down.
Are you talking about full project stats and not just challenge stats? |

The clock was using local time...so it was correct for me...dumped it altogether so it would be wrong. 16:00 GMT or about 25 hours and 11mins to go from now. |

You need to check ati work and test applications in your account, and you need boinc 7 beta, or you get no work. Cause ati work is the test app for now.
Runnin on 6870 that's crunchin on cal, no opencl installed, runtime 70 minuts, driver 12.3 and 12.2 worked well, didn't pull any cpu cores (although they were reserved). Testing 11.8 for now, pulls one cpu core per one ati gpu. |
